On the afternoon of May 27th, a traffic accident occurred on the westbound section of Xinwu Road on Nanshan Quick Southbound in Shenzhen, causing a large fire. The sound insulation shed on the road where the incident took place burned fiercely, with flames soaring and thick smoke billowing.
According to reports from Shenzhen News Network, a serious fire broke out around 5 p.m. on May 27th on the westbound Xinwu Road section of Nanshan Expressway, accompanied by explosions. Social media videos show that before the fire broke out, there was a traffic accident on that section, with a tanker truck and a bus colliding and stopping on the right two lanes, while another car was damaged and blocking the left two lanes.
Around 5 p.m. on May 27th, videos posted by several netizens showed a fire blazing on Nanshan Quick Southbound in Shenzhen, with thick smoke and flames reaching high into the sky, visible from several kilometers away.
Footage from a distance showed that the sound insulation shed on that section had been mostly burned down.
According to reports from various mainland media outlets such as “Southern Metropolis Daily,” videos and photos taken by citizens at the scene showed the sound insulation shed near Shahe West Road on the westbound Nanshan Expressway engulfed in flames, with flames raging inside the tunnel and on top of the sound insulation shed, accompanied by a large amount of black smoke billowing into the sky. Long queues of traffic were seen on Longzhu Avenue and Longjing Road in the surrounding area, with the sky above the filming location shrouded in thick smoke, creating a shocking scene.
The Nanshan Expressway is one of the main east-west traffic arteries in Shenzhen, connecting areas such as Nanshan and Longhua, with a significant volume of traffic throughout the year. This fire incident is expected to have a noticeable impact on the evening rush hour traffic.
The accident has sparked widespread attention on social media.
At 5:09 p.m. on the 27th, the official Weibo account of the Shenzhen Traffic Police Command Center announced that a traffic accident occurred on the westbound section of Xinwu Road on Nanshan Quick Southbound at 17:08, occupying the right three lanes, temporarily closing the Nanshan Xia Shahe West Road, making the road impassable.
Subsequently, the situation report released by the Shenzhen Traffic Police stated that around 4:30 p.m. on May 27th, a three-vehicle collision occurred at the Sandahe West Road exit section of Nanshan Quick Southbound, with one vehicle catching fire and igniting the road’s sound insulation shed.
