On Sunday, in the early hours of the morning on August 30th, two large-scale shooting incidents occurred in Trenton, New Jersey, and Chicago, Illinois, resulting in a total of 3 deaths and 18 injuries. Local authorities in both places are currently investigating the causes of these tragic events.
The Chicago Police Department released a statement to ABC News on Sunday, stating that around 11:37 p.m. on Saturday night (12:37 a.m. Sunday Eastern Time), a shooting erupted in Washington Park within the Hyde Park community in the southern part of Chicago. Police were on-site attempting to disperse a large gathering of people at the time.
According to the police, a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead upon arrival at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The other 9 victims of the shooting, consisting of 5 men and 4 women aged between 23 and 45, are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals.
Authorities mentioned that there may have been multiple gunmen involved in the shooting, but no arrests have been made at this point.
Officials reported that no police officers were injured during the incident, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Coincidentally, a similar large-scale shooting incident also took place in Trenton, New Jersey around the same time.
Mayor of Trenton, W. Reed Gusciora, stated in a Facebook post that around 12:25 a.m. local time on Sunday, Trenton police responded to multiple reports of shootings in the vicinity of 194 Locust Street.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found 11 individuals shot, with two fatalities and the remaining nine individuals transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of injuries of the victims or revealed the names of the deceased.
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill indicated that she has been briefed on the shooting incident.
In a statement on social media platform X on Sunday, Sherrill stated: “As local law enforcement continues their investigation, my Attorney General has been in close contact with on-site officials.”
No arrests have been announced by the police so far, and the specific reasons leading to the occurrence of this shooting incident have not been disclosed.
