Fifteen months after being removed from office, former Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Political Consultative Conference, Peng Xiaochun, has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes totaling over 260 million yuan.
On September 29th, the Intermediate People’s Court of Foshan City in Guangdong Province publicly pronounced the verdict on the bribery case of Peng Xiaochun, former member of the Party Committee and vice chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Political Consultative Conference. Peng Xiaochun was convicted of bribery and sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve.
In June 2025, Peng Xiaochun was officially announced to be under investigation, becoming the 28th senior official reported to have fallen from grace by the authorities in 2025. In December of the same year, it was reported that Peng Xiaochun had been expelled from the Party, had his entitlements revoked, had his qualification as a representative of the 12th Party Congress of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region terminated, and was transferred to the judiciary.
Public records show that Peng Xiaochun, born in November 1961 in Hepu, Guangxi, became the secretary of the Party Office of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1992. Subsequently, Peng Xiaochun served as Deputy Secretary of the Longzhou County Party Committee, Deputy Secretary General of the Nanning Municipal Party Committee, and Secretary of the Fushui County Party Committee. From 2004 to 2008, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Liuzhou Municipal Party Committee, and from 2008 to 2010, he held positions such as Director of the Party Office of the Autonomous Region and Director of the Policy Research Office of the Party Committee. In 2010, Peng Xiaochun was appointed as Secretary of the Hezhou Municipal Party Committee, concurrently serving as Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee. In 2013, he assumed the position of Secretary of the Baise Municipal Party Committee, also concurrently serving as Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee.
In 2018, Peng Xiaochun was appointed Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Political Consultative Conference. In 2021, he resigned from the position of Secretary of the Baise Municipal Party Committee and focused solely on his duties in the Political Consultative Conference. In January 2023, Peng Xiaochun stepped down from the position of Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Political Consultative Conference.
