Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau announced this evening that Typhoon Kemi has weakened to a mild typhoon, and Taitung has been removed from the alert area. The storm circle still covers areas north of Kaohsiung, Yilan, Hualien, Penghu, Matsu, and Kinmen. Rain and wind are still ongoing in Miaoli province and south of it, as well as in Penghu and Matsu. Pingtung also needs to remain vigilant.
The Central Weather Bureau stated that due to the influence of the typhoon and its peripheral circulation, there may be short-duration heavy rainfall. Taitung County has experienced heavy rain, with Taichung City, mountainous areas of Yunlin County, Nantou County, Chiayi County, Chiayi City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County experiencing localized heavy or extremely heavy rain. Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, and Yunlin County are seeing local heavy or heavy rain. Mountainous areas of Hualien County, Taitung County, and Penghu County are experiencing localized heavy rain or heavy rainfall. Areas north of Hsinchu, Yilan, Hualien, and the islands of Kinmen, Matsu, Orchid Island, and Green Island are also experiencing localized heavy rain. People are advised to be aware of landslides, rockfalls, and flash floods.
The Central Weather Bureau emphasized that residents in low-lying coastal areas should guard against flooding, and people should avoid entering mountainous areas and river activities. Areas experiencing extremely heavy rain include Taichung City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County. Areas experiencing heavy rain include Miaoli County and Changhua County.
