Southern California’s Metrolink has announced that due to an expected significant high tide, train services south of Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo station on the Orange County Line will be temporarily suspended starting from Monday, August 10th.
According to city news reports, Metrolink stated that this temporary adjustment will last until Friday. During this period, Orange County Line trains will only operate between Los Angeles and Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo station, with no alternative bus shuttle services provided. However, weekend services are expected to remain unaffected.
The agency explained that a similar high tide last month caused delays that extended to other sections, prompting them to implement temporary reduced service measures this time to maintain the overall system’s reliability.
Metrolink mentioned that as long as it is safe to do so, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and freight trains will continue to operate.
Furthermore, crews have been laying rocks and protective materials along the rail lines in the southern part of Orange County this week to enhance erosion resistance. Officials stated that during the high tide period, crews will continue to monitor the coastal tracks and have repair equipment and materials ready nearby to respond promptly to any unforeseen situations.
