National Taiwan University Top Student Abandons High-paying Biotech Company Job, Xie Mengqi Joins the Music Industry

In the world of Mandarin music, the emerging male singer Mark H. (Xie Mengqi) possesses a high education with a master’s degree from National Taiwan University. Despite his academic achievements, his passion for music led him to give up a high-paying job in a biotech company in pursuit of his musical dreams. After going through trials in the music industry, he is finally set to release his debut album titled “Rumination”.

Mark H. has always been passionate about music, singing, and songwriting. Despite excelling academically from a young age and graduating from the Chemical Engineering department at National Taiwan University, he realized his love for music after entering the workforce. He chose to follow his passion for music and entered the music industry, stating, “Applying what you learn is fulfilling, but pursuing your dreams is priceless.”

Starting from behind-the-scenes music project planning, Mark H. has been involved in lyric and melody composition. Since 2022, he has released several personal compositions including the song “Heart Gate,” which was selected as the theme song for the stage play “Run Single Diary”. His songs “Make Wish,” “Tell Me How” (Watch MV), and the Taiwanese single “Alley Corner” (Watch MV) have all received positive feedback.

After refining his skills through multiple singles, Mark H. is now gearing up to release his debut album “Rumination”. The lead single “Belated Love Letter” was inspired by his reading of author Lin Da-yang’s work “Slow Love Letter: Will We Meet in a Better Place?”. This song reflects his contemplation on relationships.

Using “letters” as a vessel for emotions, the new song “Belated Love Letter” conveys a subtle melancholy. He expressed, “I want to present the helplessness of letters that couldn’t be delivered to the other party after a breakup.” He hopes to convey that emotions existing after digesting a relationship will gradually disappear during the process of rumination.

Mark H. turns his reflections and thoughts on various aspects of life into songs, hence naming his personal album “Rumination”. By personifying the process of ruminant animals, he symbolizes the repetitive thinking in his mind.

Mark H. stated, “The world after growing up is filled with unexpected chaos and hardships. Faced with various challenges in the world, emotions, work, and relationships, those emotions and events that are hard to digest and organize require understanding and transformation repeatedly.” He further emphasizes that “rumination” is also a process of self-healing.
