Nanchang Boy Falls from Second Floor of Kindergarten, Education Bureau: Surveillance Damage

On October 8, Mr. Hu from Jiangxi posted on social media that his 4-year-old son, nicknamed Chaochao, fell from the second-floor window of a nursery school on September 30 and was hospitalized with injuries. After regaining consciousness, the child told his parents that he was pushed by a teacher. However, the Education Bureau explained that the surveillance cameras in the unused classroom were damaged.

According to Mr. Hu’s account to XIAOXIANG Morning Post, around 10 a.m. on September 30, Chaochao fell from an abandoned room on the second floor of the Wangguanbao Nursery School in Xihu District, Nanchang, Jiangxi, to the cement ground on the first floor (approximately 4-5 meters), resulting in a collapsed lung, spinal compression fracture, and multiple soft tissue injuries throughout his body. “At that time, it was very serious, the hospital issued a critically ill notice. Now the situation is more stable, no life-threatening danger, and the recovery is better.”

“We always thought it was due to inadequate supervision (by the school). When we heard that the child woke up and told us himself, the whole family was shocked,” Mr. Hu provided a recorded conversation with Chaochao.

In the recording, Chaochao stated, “I was standing at the entrance for punishment, she was watching me standing, and then I stood there for a long time,” “then she gave me a chance,” “then she put me in a small dark room, and then she told me to go down, and I didn’t listen to her, she directly pushed me with her hands.”

Mr. Hu asked, “She pushed you down with her hands?” Chaochao replied, “Yes, and then I fell down.”

The Hu family never saw any surveillance footage. “The fence around the small room is very high, probably over 1.7 meters, it’s difficult for a child to climb up. There are surveillance cameras in the nursery, also in the small room, but we can’t see the surveillance… inadequate supervision and being pushed are two different things.”

XIAOXIANG Morning Post contacted a staff member of the Education and Sports Bureau in Xihu District, Nanchang City. The staff member mentioned that the police have intervened to investigate whether it was the teacher who pushed the child. The case is still under investigation.

The staff member stated, “We, along with the police station and the nursery, have checked the surveillance. In the footage, we saw the overall process of the teacher in the corridor, but the classroom involved is an unused one, and the surveillance inside is damaged.” Currently, the nursery school in question has been ordered to suspend operations for rectification.

This incident has sparked attention on social media.

Some netizens commented, “It’s hard to believe a teacher would push him. Maybe he climbed out of the small room and fell on his own.” “With a 1.7-meter fence, if someone can be thrown over it, what’s the use of the fence.” “The fence is 1.7 meters high, can a 4-year-old climb up? Is he Superman? I don’t understand.”

Others said, “Whenever accidents happen in nurseries, the surveillance cameras always seem to be malfunctioning.” “Children aged 3 or 4 are in the lower age group, if he wakes up and says the teacher pushed him, he definitely isn’t making it up, he doesn’t have such awareness yet. Unless someone taught him! Yes, whenever there’s an accident in a nursery, the cameras magically stop working, who can believe that…”
