Pakistan’s emergency rescue organization, Rescue 1122, announced that an explosion occurred in Dera Ismail Khan, northwest Pakistan on Saturday, resulting in 11 deaths and 30 injuries.
Dera Ismail Khan is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The region has been frequent target of violent attacks by Islamic militants, often aimed at the police and security forces.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, the incident took place at a checkpoint near the border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
A bomb disposal squad has been dispatched to investigate the cause of the explosion.
Authorities stated that the injured include police officers, customs officials, and civilians.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack.
Rescue 1122, in a statement, revealed that the explosion occurred near Aman Mela in Darazinda area. The victims include 8 males, 2 females, and 1 child.
The rescue team from Darazinda station has arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations, providing medical assistance to the injured and transporting them to hospitals.
The region has witnessed a surge in security incidents this month, including attacks involving the Pakistani Taliban.
