Renowned Chinese musician Liu Huan passed away on September 25 at the age of 63 due to illness.
Hunan Radio and Television Group Mango V Fund announced on their official WeChat account on September 26 that Liu Huan passed away in Shanghai on September 25 with his family by his side.
The University of International Business and Economics also released a statement, stating that Liu Huan had been working at the university since July 1991, serving as a teacher and associate professor in the Art Teaching and Research Department. In 2011, he was appointed as a director of the third session of the Board of Directors and retired in September 2023.
According to the announcement, in accordance with Liu Huan’s final wishes, the funeral arrangements will be simple without establishing a funeral committee, holding a body viewing ceremony, or a memorial service.
The announcement did not mention the specific illness that led to Liu Huan’s passing. However, many netizens mentioned that Liu Huan had been suffering from avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
A mainland blogger, “Yi Nuo Jin Li,” posted that Liu Huan was diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the right femur in Beijing in 2009. In 2010, he underwent a successful surgery to replace his right hip joint and had a good recovery, even losing weight from 87 to 70 kilograms.
In early May 2010, Liu Huan’s manager, Mr. Lu, confirmed to the media that Liu Huan had undergone surgery in the United States for avascular necrosis of the femoral head. This verified the photos circulating online in 2009 of Liu Huan using crutches were not fabricated.
Liu Huan’s wife Lu Lu revealed in an interview that Liu Huan had a minor injury to his left hip joint in March 2004, which was not a significant issue except for some difficulty when sitting cross-legged. However, in early 2009 after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Liu Huan suddenly experienced leg pain while working at home.
On August 8, 2008, Liu Huan and British singer Sarah Brightman performed the theme song “You and Me” for the Beijing Olympics. At the time, Liu Huan, who gained fame, faced criticism for frequently supporting the Chinese Communist Party.
Furthermore, on April 14, 2019, there were reports in the mainland media that Liu Huan suffered a sudden heart attack while recording a program. In a critical moment, he quickly took “fast-acting heart pills” and saved his own life.
Born on August 26, 1963, in Tianjin, Liu Huan was a singer and composer known for his works such as “The Curved Moon,” “Asking Ten Million Times,” “He Who Wins the People, Wins the World,” and “The Song of Heroes.”
