Taiwanese artist Harlem and his ex-wife Vivian Hsu’s son Yudi Enli recently graduated from New York University in the United States. Harlem and Vivian Hsu both flew to New York to attend their son’s graduation ceremony. Despite being divorced for 15 years, the two were expected to take a surprise “family photo” with their son at the event, but things did not go as planned. Surprisingly, there was no photo of Harlem and Vivian Hsu together at the ceremony, causing speculation. Vivian Hsu had previously revealed shocking secrets on a television program regarding the absence of a photo with Harlem.
Harlem and Vivian Hsu divorced in 2009 and have since moved on to create their own families. Yudi Enli, known as Little Harlem, completed a four-year course in just three years at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Harlem and Vivian Hsu made the effort to witness their son’s important moment. While it was initially anticipated that the three of them would be seen together, Vivian Hsu watched the ceremony from inside while Harlem was outside watching on a big screen.
After attending their son’s graduation ceremony, Harlem and Vivian Hsu each posted photos with their son along with thoughtful captions. Harlem expressed, “Our Harry Potter from Gryffindor House has graduated! From now on, he will embark on his magical journey! Excited and a bit nervous!” Vivian Hsu’s hope for her son is that he will “become a responsible person to the world.”
Vivian Hsu, who has never spoken ill of Harlem since their divorce, has said that although she and Harlem “are two people without fate, they still respect each other and deeply love their son.”
In the nine photos posted by Yudi Enli, the first three are individual photos, the middle three are with his father Harlem, and the final three are with his mother Vivian Hsu, showing his equal love for himself, his father, and his mother, reflecting his high emotional intelligence.
Many netizens requested a family photo, and Harlem may have responded playfully to the fans’ demands on May 20, stating on Facebook and Weibo, “So interesting! The three of us are jumping together! Did you see it?” However, upon closer inspection, it was actually a photo of him with his son and a squirrel.
In fact, Vivian Hsu appeared on the show “Kangxi Lai Le” in November 2004, where she was asked by host Kevin Tsai, “Why does he (Harlem) dislike being photographed with you at events so much? What is he afraid of?” Vivian Hsu responded, “I haven’t figured that out yet.” When Dee Hsu questioned, “You haven’t asked Harlem?” Vivian Hsu revealed that she had argued with Harlem to find out the reason behind his reluctance to take photos together at events.
Although Harlem and Vivian Hsu did not reunite for a photo after 15 years apart, some netizens believe that not being in the same place allowed them both to maintain their dignity, considering their respective new families. Some also feel that out of respect for each other’s families, it may not be appropriate to share a joint photo, and that it is sufficient for the child to hold the spotlight alone.
After ending their nine-year marriage, Vivian Hsu and Harlem have found happiness in their separate lives. In 2015, Vivian Hsu met Mainland Chinese actor Qin Hao, who is 10 years her junior, and they welcomed their daughter, “Xiaomili,” in 2016. Harlem, on the other hand, married Taiwanese anchor Zhang Jiaxin in 2016 and now has a 7-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son.
