Quick Look: Essential Items Travel Experts Bring on Every Trip

Before traveling, people may hesitate about what to pack and what not to pack, and sometimes only realize upon reaching their destination that they have forgotten certain essential items. In light of this, several travel experts have shared their must-have items for trips, which may serve as a reference for your next journey.

According to a report by the Huffington Post, the items people pack can vary depending on the type of travel. For example, the items you bring for a beach vacation will definitely differ from those for sightseeing in a business center.

However, there are certain items that can come in handy regardless of the itinerary. Various travel industry professionals have shared the items they always bring on their travels:

Katy Nastro, a spokesperson for the booking company Going, mentioned that she always carries a photocopy of her passport when traveling, but keeps it in her carry-on luggage rather than her wallet. This way, in case her wallet gets stolen, she still has a backup form of identification to use.

Travel blogger Sean Lau stated that his Turkish towel serves multiple purposes during his journeys, such as doubling as a blanket on cold buses, a towel at the beach, and even a pillow during camping. He emphasized how it has been a lifesaver for him on numerous occasions and a constant travel companion.

Gabby Beckford, founder of the travel website Packs Light, stressed the importance of always carrying a scarf regardless of the destination or flight duration. A versatile scarf can be used as a top, headscarf, blanket, neck pillow, eye mask, and more. Beckford highlighted its usefulness on long flights and the regret of forgetting to bring it.

For Delta Air Lines pilot Nick Motlagh, protein bars are a crucial item during his journeys. He emphasized the significance of bringing snacks to curb hunger, especially when there’s limited time before boarding or long lines for food and drinks.

Elie Michaels, Vice President of Operations at Advantage Rent A Car, mentioned the necessity of carrying medication during travels for his health. Unlike toiletries or clothes that can be easily replaced, certain medications are vital for safety and comfort throughout the journey.

Diane Martin, a flight attendant at Delta Air Lines, revealed her essential travel kit includes mini toothbrushes, toiletries, and makeup, along with face masks for hydration. She emphasized the convenience of having these items readily available in her carry-on luggage.

Jessica van Dop DeJesus, founder and editor of “The Dining Traveler,” and Laura Motta, Digital Editorial Director at Lonely Planet, both highlighted the importance of carrying a power bank to charge their phones during travels.

DeJesus mentioned how airports can be crowded with everyone looking for charging outlets, and having a power bank eliminates the need to sit in cramped spaces just to charge a phone.

Travel blogger Esther Susag mentioned always bringing a microfiber towel for beach trips or hikes. She also carries a reusable bag or tote to pack groceries or souvenirs conveniently.

Phil Dengler, one of the founders of “The Vacationer” website, emphasized the necessity of packing a raincoat for every journey, even if the weather forecast predicts no rain. He recommended a lightweight raincoat with a hood, deep pockets, and zippers for securely storing valuables.

Melissa DaSilva, North America President of Trafalgar, highlighted the importance of carrying a power adapter in addition to clothes, medication, and cosmetics during travels.

She emphasized that a power adapter is essential since even on a short stay in another country, you’d want to charge your phone and other electronic devices to be prepared for the next leg of your journey.
