Three military industry experts removed from the list of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

Three experts from the Chinese military industry, Wu Manqing, Wei Yiyin, and Zhao Xiageng, have recently been removed from the list of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Wu Manqing is a radar expert, Wei Yiyin is a missile guidance and control expert, and Zhao Xiageng is a nuclear weapon engineering expert. All three have been associated with China Electronics Technology Group, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, and China Academy of Engineering Physics, which have been undergoing clearance in recent years.

It was reported on March 13, 2026, by commentator Jiang Wangzheng, who has been revealing the trends of the Chinese Communist Party’s top leaders, that the official website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering removed the information of academicians Wei Yiyin, Zhao Xiageng, and Wu Manqing.

Verification conducted by reporters at Dajiyuan found that the current list of all academicians on the Chinese Academy of Engineering’s official website (989 individuals) no longer includes Wei Yiyin, Zhao Xiageng, and Wu Manqing.

In contrast, mainland Chinese media had listed Wei Yiyin, Zhao Xiageng, and Wu Manqing on the full list of all academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as of November 20, 2025. The three were previously listed under the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering.

Public records indicate that Wei Yiyin, Zhao Xiageng, and Wu Manqing are all experts in the Chinese Communist Party’s military industry.

On July 9, 2025, the State Council of the Chinese Communist Party removed Wu Manqing from the position of Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

There were reports as early as 2024 indicating that Wu Manqing was under investigation. A report by mainland finance news on October 25, 2024, stated that Chen Zhaoxiong, former chairman of China Electronics Technology Group, and former general manager Wu Manqing were both taken away for investigation. However, the report was taken down on the same day, and China Electronics Technology Group did not respond to the matter.

Public information reveals that Wu Manqing was born in August 1965 in Tongcheng, Anhui Province, and graduated from the Department of Electronic Technology at the National University of Defense Technology affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party’s military. He is an expert in radar technology and network information systems, known as the “founder” of China’s digital array radar theory and technology system, and was involved in the development of the KJ-500 early warning aircraft radar. He served as the head of the radar detection technology unit of the General Equipment Department of the Chinese Communist Party’s military.

In 2009, Wu Manqing was elected as an academician of the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. From July 2022 to July 2025, he served as Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

From 1990 to 2022, Wu Manqing worked for China Electronics Technology Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as CETC) for 32 years, holding positions such as the director of the 38th Research Institute of CETC, the chief engineer of CETC, the director of the Institute of Electronic Science Research, the deputy general manager, and the general manager and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of CETC.

Established on February 25, 2002, CETC was formed by 46 scientific research institutes and 26 enterprises in the electronics industry, known as the “main force of electronic military industry” of the Chinese Communist Party. Whether it is the Beidou satellite navigation system or the renowned FAST telescope, CETC is one of the main contributors to these projects.

In recent years, a wave of purges in the Chinese military industry has led to multiple senior officials being disgraced in China Electronics Technology Group. The deputy general manager of the group, He Wenzhong, was ousted in April 2024.
