On the evening of September 21st, a suspected retaliatory incident occurred in Baise City, Guangxi. A 24-year-old man drove a small car and repeatedly hit 9 electric bicycles, resulting in at least 2 deaths and 6 injuries.
According to a report from the Tandong County Public Security Bureau of Guangxi on September 22nd on their official WeChat account, the incident happened at 6:24 pm, during the peak hours of people getting off work and school. The car involved hit 9 electric bicycles in succession on Qingping Road and Tandong Bridge Road, causing 2 deaths and 6 injuries, with varying degrees of damage to the vehicles.
After the incident, the 24-year-old male driver surnamed Huang has been taken into police custody. Initial investigations have ruled out suspicions of drunk driving or drug driving, and the 6 injured individuals were promptly sent to the hospital for treatment.
Despite the police report labeling the incident as a “traffic accident,” many netizens questioned, “It must be a random act of retaliation against society.” Some netizens also mentioned that the number of casualties is “far more than what was reported.”
According to a report by the Hong Kong “Ming Pao,” the incident occurred in the downtown area of the county. An internet user revealed that on that day, Huang drove out of the parking lot of the Tandong County People’s Hospital, hitting medical personnel who had just finished work. The car then traveled to the Tandong Bridge area two kilometers away, hitting people along the way, in what seemed like a random and indiscriminate attack.
Currently, videos of the scene posted on social media platforms have been removed, and many comments by netizens have been deleted shortly after.
