On the afternoon of June 7, a pig breeding company in Liuzhou, Guangxi, experienced a sudden fire, resulting in the deaths of 5 people. The casualty rate of the pigs involved has not been reported.
The Liujiang District Fire and Rescue Bureau of Liuzhou City, Guangxi, issued an incident report on June 8, stating that a fire broke out at Guangxi Zhongdan Pig Breeding Co., Ltd. at 17:20 on June 7, resulting in 5 fatalities. The current fire has been extinguished, with an area of about 1000 square meters affected. The post-fire cleanup and investigation into the cause of the accident are currently underway.
The report did not mention the loss of pigs or other damages, but netizens speculate that as the incident occurred at a pig breeding base, the losses are likely substantial.
In a post by the content creator “九方魚論” on NetEase, it was mentioned that when this pig breeding company went into operation in 2021, the plan was to gradually establish a large-scale pig breeding center with 6,000 head of parent breeding pigs, 8,250 head of parent pigs, 55,000 head of marketable parent pigs, and over 372,000 head of weaned piglets annually.
It is known that by 2024, the company had employed more than three hundred staff members and had a large number of pigs. The sudden outbreak of fire makes it difficult for the pigs to escape, resulting in significant losses.
Public records show that in December 2019, Guangxi Zhongdan Pig Breeding Co., Ltd. was established as an enterprise under the Guilin Liyuan Group focusing on modern pig breeding. The company is responsible for the operation of the “Zhongdan Pig Guangxi Breeding Industrial Demonstration Park,” with a total investment of approximately 810 million RMB. Multiple modern pig farms have been completed and put into operation, forming a relatively complete pig breeding system.
