Rumors of the death of Li Peixia online, official denial, Mao Qi exposed for deep background

In a recent development in Wangnian County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, the case involving former Party Secretary Li Peixia’s father’s online whistleblowing against the current County Committee Secretary Mao Qi continues to escalate on the internet. Following the circulation of rumors about Li Peixia’s death, her father has once again spoken out.

According to a report by “New Yellow River,” a media outlet under the Jinan Times, a recent online post claimed that Li Peixia, a female cadre in the township who was allegedly sexually assaulted and harassed by Mao Qi, had passed away. On July 30, the Shangrao City Committee Network Information Office stated that the news was false.

However, Li Changliu, Li Peixia’s father, stated in a media interview on July 31 that he is still unaware of his daughter’s current situation. Since the joint investigation meeting with the Shangrao City Committee on the 26th, he has not been contacted by them, nor have they responded to his requests.

Previously, the whistleblower Li Changliu, a retired teacher in Wangnian County, revealed in an online video that his daughter Li Peixia, the former Party Secretary of Shangrao Township in the county, had clashed with County Committee Secretary Mao Qi on May 23, 2024. She had claimed that she would report Mao Qi to the provincial disciplinary committee. However, three days later, Li Peixia was taken away by the Wangnian County disciplinary committee and has been detained since then.

On June 17, the official WeChat account of the Shangrao City Discipline Inspection Commission previously announced that Li Peixia was under investigation. The announcement stated that she was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, actively admitted to the organization about the issues, and was currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Wangnian County disciplinary committee.

Li Changliu had previously disclosed that out of self-protection concerns, he is currently not in Jiangxi. The investigative team from the Shangrao City Committee specially came to meet him in another province on the morning of the 26th, and they had a discussion for over an hour. Li Changliu stated that he had truthfully provided all the evidence he had and the members of the investigative team promised to conduct a fair and thorough investigation into his report. He also expressed his suspicion that his daughter’s detention was a form of “retaliatory strike” by Mao Qi.

According to public records, Mao Qi, born in March 1982 in Shangrao, Jiangxi, joined the Communist Party in 2000 and held various positions including the County Secretary of Wangnian in Jiangxi Province. Authorities announced in July of this year that Mao Qi was under investigation for “serious violations of discipline and law.” Li Peixia, born in May 1983 in Shangrao, Jiangxi, had also joined the Party in 2003 and served as the Party Secretary of Shangrao Township in Wangnian County.

Public data shows that during the Wangnian County Political Consultative Conference earlier this year, several young women were “elected” to the Political Consultative Conference, including county officials and local entrepreneurs, many of whom were born in the 1985s or 1990s, much younger than Li Peixia.

Moreover, several women were also promoted to the position of department head at the beginning of last year. In a series of leaked phone recordings, Li Peixia appeared to be requesting Mao Qi’s “recommendation” for her promotion, which seemed to have been ignored by Mao Qi, leading to speculation about the existence of a “power-sex trade” between the two.

Qin Peng, host of “Qin Peng Observation,” believes that the rapid rise and fall of Mao Qi, the County Committee Secretary of Wangnian, involves at least five key players: his father, two provincial-level officials from Jiangxi, a central government official who supported Mao Qi, and the Jiangxi Provincial Discipline Inspection Commission.

Qin Peng pointed out that under the Communist Party system, the County Committee Secretary is a cadre under the jurisdiction of the province, but in 2018, Mao Qi was still a cadre under Shangrao City. Suddenly, he was appointed as a researcher by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Even with two provincial-level officials as his father or connections, it would be difficult to achieve this, right? Therefore, the only answer is that he had support within the central government.
