On July 23, 2026, it was reported that Wang Jun, the Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the Chinese Communist Party, has been expelled from the party and dismissed from public office, as well as handed over to judicial authorities. This marks the 63rd official of high rank to fall from grace in 2025.
According to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission announcement on July 23, Wang Jun was found to have deviated from the political achievements, engaged in inaction and misconduct, obstructed organizational scrutiny, accepted banquets that could affect the fair execution of public duties, sought personal gain and received property for others during the selection and appointment of cadres, violated regulations by accepting gifts, leaked work secrets, abused public power for personal gain through power-money transactions, utilized his official position to profit others in mineral resource development, land acquisition for construction, and unlawfully received large sums of money.
Wang Jun, born in February 1964 in Pingliang, Gansu Province, had served in Tibet for many years, holding positions such as member of the Ali Prefectural Committee and Deputy Commissioner of the Administration, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Department of Land and Resources of the Autonomous Region, Deputy Secretary of the Autonomous Region Commission for Discipline Inspection, among others. In January 2018, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Tibet until the recent investigation.
The announcement stated that Wang Jun’s deviation from the political line and grave violations of discipline led to the severe punishment of expulsion from the party and removal from office, as well as being transferred to judicial authorities for further investigation and legal action.
It is a stark reminder of the ongoing anti-corruption campaign in China and the stern measures taken against corrupt officials, regardless of their rank or position.
