On Tuesday, September 22nd, a military aircraft crashed near the United States Air Force Base in Spangdahlem, in western Germany. Local authorities reported that one person was injured in the incident.
Authorities in the Bitburg-Prüm region of Eifel stated, “At this time, we are unable to comment further on the details of the incident.” Firefighters and emergency responders have been dispatched to the scene.
It is currently unclear whether the crashed aircraft belonged to the German military or the US military.
According to the German Press Agency (DPA), the Spangdahlem Air Base is home to a squadron equipped with approximately 20 F-16 fighter jets.
The Spangdahlem Air Base is located north of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate, not far from the border with Luxembourg. This NATO facility was established in the early 1950s and is the base for the US Air Force’s 52nd Fighter Wing.
