Henan Official Investigated Again 8 Years After Demotion from Deputy Ministerial to Deputy Bureau Level

Recently, the news of “Wang Tie, downgraded from deputy department level to deputy division level, investigated for the second time” has been trending and has become a hot topic.

According to the report from Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision on June 15, former deputy division-level cadre of the Henan provincial government, Wang Tie, is suspected of serious violations of laws and is currently under investigation.

In August 2018, it was officially announced that Wang Tie, the deputy secretary of the Party Group and deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial People’s Congress, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and laws, had voluntarily surrendered himself, and is currently under investigation.

In the same year in November, Wang Tie was expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from his governmental position. Wang Tie was accused of engaging in campaign activities before the provincial committee turnover without reporting personal matters as required; providing assistance to relatives in business activities using his power and influence.

The report stated that Wang Tie voluntarily surrendered himself, confessed to the violations of discipline and laws, fully handed over the ill-gotten gains from violations, and was treated with leniency and mitigation. Wang Tie was downgraded to the deputy division level non-leadership position and went through retirement procedures; his qualification as a representative of the 10th Henan Provincial Party Congress was terminated.

Official records show that Wang Tie was born in October 1957 and started working in March 1974. He joined the Communist Party of China in August 1986.

Throughout his career in the Henan officialdom, Wang Tie held various positions such as Deputy Director of Henan Provincial Trade Bureau, Secretary of the Jiyuan Municipal Committee of Henan Province, Secretary of the Xinyang Municipal Committee, Deputy Governor of Henan Province, and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial People’s Congress.
