Xi’an Deputy Minister-level Official Han Song Indicted

Recently, a high-ranking official at the deputy ministerial level in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, Han Song, was arrested and prosecuted. Han Song, who was the director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Xi’an at the time, was brought down from his position last July.

According to a report by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Communist Party of China on June 9, the investigation into the case of bribery involving Han Song, former party secretary and director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, has been concluded, and it has been transferred to the procuratorial organs for examination and prosecution. The Procuratorate made the decision to arrest Han Song on suspicion of accepting bribes, and designated the Lanzhou City Procuratorate of Gansu Province to review the case for prosecution. Recently, the prosecution has filed a lawsuit with the Lanzhou Intermediate People’s Court.

The prosecution alleges that Han Song, taking advantage of his positions as the former director of the Propaganda Center and deputy director of the General Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, deputy mayor of Xi’an, secretary and director of the Party Committee of the Xi’an International Port Area Management Committee, deputy secretary of the Xi’an Municipal Committee, and secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Xi’an Municipal Committee, provided convenience in his official duties for others to seek benefits and used his own power or position to seek improper benefits for others through actions of other state personnel, illegally accepting property from others in an extremely large amount. He should be held criminally responsible for the crime of bribery.

On July 14 last year, Han Song was officially announced to be under investigation, becoming the 35th central department-level cadre to fall from grace in 2025; on February 6 this year, it was reported that he had been expelled from the Party and transferred to judicial authorities.

Public records show that Han Song was born in June 1965 in Linyi, Shandong Province. He graduated from the University of International Business and Economics in August 1989 and has worked successively in the General Office of the State Council and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. He began serving as deputy mayor of Xi’an and a member of the municipal Party committee in 2006, and in 2017, he was appointed deputy secretary of the Xi’an Municipal Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Municipal Committee.

In March 2022, Han Song was appointed party secretary and director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Xi’an.
