After falling from grace six months ago, Chen Weijun, the Deputy Chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Government, has been expelled from the Communist Party and removed from public office, with his case being transferred to judicial authorities. Chen Weijun had taken on a significant role in Xinjiang in 2021 after serving in Zhejiang for an extended period. He became the Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province at the age of 52.
On June 8th, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission disclosed that, with the approval of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, an investigation into serious violations of discipline and the law by Chen Weijun, the former member of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Party Committee and former Deputy Chairman of the Autonomous Region Government, had been initiated.
According to the report, Chen Weijun resisted organizational review, accepted entertainment that could affect the fair execution of official duties, sought benefits for others in cadre selection and appointment, allowed and tacitly supported relatives to exploit his official influence for personal gain, received gifts, cash, and consumption cards in violation of regulations, improperly borrowed money from managed entities, engaged in profit-making activities in violation of regulations, had others pay expenses that should have been paid by himself, engaged in rampant corruption, engaged in power-for-money transactions, exploited his position for others in areas such as project land use, tax exemptions, and engineering contracting for profit, and illegally accepted huge sums of money.
Chen Weijun has been expelled from the Party, removed from public office, disqualified as a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, disqualified as a delegate to the 10th Party Congress of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and sent to the judiciary.
On November 30, 2025, Chen Weijun, then Deputy Chairman of the Xinjiang government, was officially announced to have fallen from grace.
Public information indicates that Chen Weijun was born in June 1966 in Ninghai, Zhejiang. His early education background is unknown, with his public resume showing that he had a graduate degree from the Central Party School while working. He joined the workforce in August 1986, served in various positions in Zhejiang, including as the Mayor of Huzhou and Secretary of the Huzhou Municipal Party Committee.
In January 2018, Chen Weijun became the Vice Governor of Zhejiang, becoming the youngest vice governor in Zhejiang at that time. In May 2018, he also served as Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee and in July 2019 became a member of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee.
In May 2021, Chen Weijun was transferred to Xinjiang and appointed as a member of the Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Executive Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Government. He later also served as the Director of the Financial Office of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region, the Military-Civil Fusion Office, and the National Action Office.
