Seven senior officials in Jiangxi Province successively fall from power; officials from Jia’an, the hometown of Zeng Qinghong, turned themselves in.

In less than two months since the end of April 2026, a senior official at the deputy ministerial level in Jiangxi Province, Li Wei, along with six department-level officials, have been successively investigated for corruption. Additionally, several other department-level officials have been expelled from the Communist Party.

Many of the officials who have been investigated previously served in Ji’an City, the hometown of former senior CCP Politburo Standing Committee member Zeng Qinghong. Recently, several officials from Ji’an City have surrendered themselves, including Li Kai, former Deputy Secretary-General of Ji’an City Government, and Hu Shunchang, former Secretary of Political and Legal Affairs Committee in Ji’an County.

On June 18, 2026, it was reported by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CCP and the National Supervisory Commission, based on information from the Jiangxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, that Liu Da, former Chief Inspector of the Jiangxi Provincial Audit Office at Level One, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and is under investigation.

Liu Da, born in May 1963, is a senior auditor who has held various positions within the Jiangxi Provincial Audit Office, including Deputy Director of the Economic and Trade Audit Department and Director of the Economic and Trade Audit Department. From April 2009 to March 2023, he served as a member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Audit Office for a total of 14 years.

It has been publicly disclosed that in 2025, two other auditors from Jiangxi Province turned themselves in.

In addition to the latest investigation involving Liu Da from the Jiangxi Provincial Audit Office, other department-level officials who have been implicated include:

– Guo Bing, former Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Congress Legal Committee and former Deputy Chief Judge of the Jiangxi Higher People’s Court (May 26, 2026).
– Yu Xiaoshe, former Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Congress Agriculture and Rural Committee and former Deputy Director of the General Office of the Jiangxi Provincial Government (May 8, 2026).
– Wang Jiangjun, former Deputy Director of the CPPCC Social and Legal Committee of Jiangxi Province, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangxi Province Transportation Investment Group, and Chairman (May 6, 2026).
– Qiu Ling, Secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Communist Youth League Committee (April 28, 2026).
– Yu Zhiyong, Deputy Minister of the Jiangxi Provincial Party United Front Work Department, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau, and Director (April 27, 2026).

Furthermore, in the past two months, according to the information released by the Jiangxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision reported on the CCP’s disciplinary website, five department-level officials were expelled from the Party and removed from public office, facing judicial consequences.

On June 18, 2026, Zou Wenming, Deputy General Manager of Jiangxi Water Investment Group Co., Ltd., was expelled from the Party. Zou Wenming was implicated on February 4, 2026.

On June 15, 2026, Xiao Xiaohua, former Member of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jiangxi Financial Holdings Group Co., Ltd., former Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Hengbang Property Insurance Co., Ltd., was expelled from the Party. Xiao Xiaohua, who retired three years ago, was investigated on January 20, 2026.

On June 9, 2026, Xu Bin, former Member of the Party Working Committee of Gannan New District, former Deputy Director of the Management Committee, was expelled from the Party. Xu Bin was implicated on January 9, 2026.

On April 24, 2026, Gong Jianping, former Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Health Commission, was expelled from the Party. Gong Jianping was investigated on January 7, 2026.

On April 17, 2026, Xie Yiping, former Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Commerce, was expelled from the Party. Xie Yiping was investigated on November 4, 2025.

Jiangxi Province is known to be the base of high-ranking officials from the “Jiangxi Gang,” including former CCP Politburo Standing Committee members Zeng Qinghong and Wu Guanzheng, as well as former Political Bureau member and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, Guo Shengkun. Zeng Qinghong is from Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province; Wu Guanzheng is from Yugan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province; and Guo Shengkun is from Xingguo County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province.

According to public reports, Zeng Qinghong’s father, Zeng Shan, was born in 1899 in Yonghe Town, Ji’an County, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province. Zeng Qinghong spent part of his childhood in Ji’an.

During his tenure as a member of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee, Zeng Qinghong made several visits to his hometown of Ji’an to inspect local conditions. On April 20, 2019, more than ten years after stepping down from his position, Zeng Qinghong made a public appearance in Ji’an City, attracting widespread attention.

Among the officials who have been investigated, Wang Jiangjun is a fellow hometown member of Zeng Qinghong in Ji’an; Guo Bing and Yu Zhiyong have previously worked in Ji’an City, Zeng Qinghong’s hometown.

Additionally, as reported by the Jiangxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, since the 19th National Congress of the CCP, there have been over ten department and bureau-level officials in Ji’an City who have been investigated and dealt with, most of whom voluntarily turned themselves in.
