On June 16, Luo Hongwei, Deputy Secretary of the Nanyang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Henan Province, was taken away for investigation, less than two years into his tenure.
According to the report from the Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, Luo Hongwei is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing “disciplinary review and supervision investigation” by the Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
Luo Hongwei, 57 years old, previously served as the county magistrate of Zhongmu County in Zhengzhou City, Secretary of the Zhongmu County Party Committee, Director of the cadre adjustment department of the Organization Department of the Henan Provincial Party Committee. He was transferred to Jiaozuo City in 2018 as a member of the Jiaozuo Municipal Committee and Minister of the Organization Department, became a member of the Jiaozuo Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor in June 2022, and in April 2024, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Jiaozuo Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee.
In July 2024, Luo Hongwei was transferred to Deputy Secretary of the Nanyang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor. He was investigated less than two years into his appointment.
Since Zhu Shixi, Secretary of the Nanyang Municipal Party Committee, was investigated in May 2024, at least 8 bureau-level cadres in Nanyang have been investigated.
On April 15th of this year, the Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that A Ying, Deputy Mayor of Nanyang City, is suspected of serious violations of law and is currently under investigation by the Henan Provincial Supervision Commission. This investigation came shortly after the announcement of the investigation of the former Deputy Mayor Yang Shuguang, less than a month apart.
On March 20th, the Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision reported that Yang Shuguang, a member of the Nanyang City Government Party Group and Deputy Mayor, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Henan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
According to statistics from mainland media Xinhua, since Zhu Shixi, Secretary of the Nanyang Municipal Party Committee, was investigated in May 2024, within two years, at least 8 bureau-level cadres from the core teams of the Nanyang Municipal Party Committee, Municipal Government, and People’s Congress have been investigated, including Chang Qilin, Deputy Director of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee, Gao Xianxin, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director of the Party Group of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee, Jin Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, Yu Guangdong, member of the Party Group of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee and Deputy Director (voluntarily surrendered), as well as the aforementioned Deputy Mayors Yang Shuguang and A Ying, and Luo Hongwei, the Mayor who was investigated this time.
