Show Lo Releases New Single, Collaborates with a Well-Known Artist in Mainland China

Malaysian singer-songwriter Namewee has teamed up with Chinese singer-songwriter Gao Jin to collaborate on a new song titled “A Song For You”. Despite concerns from fans upon seeing the word “China”, Namewee is confident that the song will not face any censorship issues since it will only be released overseas and not in China.

Each time Namewee releases new music, it always comes with surprises. For his latest song “A Song For You”, he chooses to express sincere feelings towards someone special through the simplicity of music.

The music video features up-and-coming talents Robin, Tick, and Cherry, portraying the innocent emotions that unfold in a school setting.

Fans familiar with Gao Jin may first think of him in the context of Hong Kong cinema. However, Gao Jin is also a highly respected figure in the music industry as one of China’s most prominent songwriters, known for hits like “We Are Different”, “My Good Brother”, and “Just Met You”. His songs have gained worldwide popularity.

Namewee shared that when Gao Jin visited Malaysia for a performance, they instantly clicked and had deep conversations about the struggles of being a songwriter, highlighting the challenges behind the glamour of being a singer.

Contrary to public perception of fame and fortune, Namewee and Gao Jin both understand the underappreciated plight of music creators, which led them to collaborate on this song. It marks a unique experience for Gao Jin as it’s the first time he’s sung a song written by someone else.

Within the lyrics written by Namewee, he dedicates the song to his dear ones and to his good brother. Reflecting on his student days, Namewee recalls breaking household rules by sneaking out at night or getting caught in the rain, seeking to defy family expectations and experience rebellion.

Similarly to the male lead in the MV, Namewee too found himself and his brother falling for the same girl. Despite being ultimately rejected, he chose to preserve their friendship rather than resort to competition for love.

He emphasizes the importance of friendship over romance, citing that while one may have feelings for someone who may not feel the same way, friendship is unconditional. The singer also acknowledges his unsuccessful attempts at pursuing romantic interests during his school days due to his straightforward and clumsy personality, only finding his first love after graduation.
