According to a report by China Central Television (CCTV) on August 22nd, the government office of Datian County, Fujian Province, received a report from Guangfeng Mining Co., Ltd. around 23:00 on the 21st that there were workers missing underground in the mine shaft.

By 4:10 am on the 22nd, one injured person managed to escape on their own, and all 7 trapped individuals were brought to the surface. After examination by medical personnel on-site, it was confirmed that there were no signs of life.
