On August 11, 2025, the semiconductor and electronics manufacturer ASM Pacific Technology (ASMPT), headquartered in Singapore, has decided to close its semiconductor plant located in Shenzhen, affecting approximately 950 employees.
This morning of August 11, ASMPT announced the decision to close its Advanced Semiconductor Equipment (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. (AEC) facility in Bao’an District, Shenzhen. The plant belongs to the company’s semiconductor solutions division, and the closure will impact around 950 employees. According to the mid-year performance report, as of the end of June, ASMPT Group employed about 10,300 staff members, indicating that this closure will affect approximately 9% of the workforce.
ASMPT has committed to treating the affected employees fairly and with respect, outlining comprehensive support programs to assist them in their transition. The company expressed that while this decision was difficult, it is a necessary step to optimize its global supply chain in order to better adapt to the constantly changing market and customer demands.
The announcement mentioned that AEC accounts for 5% or more of the company’s annual profits, necessitating the disclosure of these voluntary liquidation matters. Last year, AEC recorded an internal operating income of approximately 490 million yuan (RMB), with a net profit of 20.6 million yuan and net assets of around 440 million yuan.
ASMPT anticipates that the one-time restructuring cost of AEC’s liquidation is expected to be approximately 360 million yuan, including severance pay, production-related expenses, and inventory write-offs. The voluntary liquidation is projected to generate annual cost savings (based on current production levels) of around 115 million yuan.
The global operations of other manufacturing bases are not affected, with the supply chain system fully coordinated to ensure continuity in customer supply and service quality.
Data indicates that ASMPT is a global leader in semiconductor packaging and Surface Mount Technology (SMT) solutions, with its headquarters in Singapore. Its business covers the entire process from wafer deposition to electronic component assembly, serving industries such as electronics, automotive, industrial, and LED. ASMPT is headquartered in Singapore and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with the stock code 0522.
As of 2025, the group operates in over 30 countries worldwide, with 11 R&D centers and 12 production facilities. The production bases are located in China (Shenzhen, Huizhou), Singapore, Germany, among others, generating an annual output value exceeding 10 billion yuan, and maintaining a market share ranking first globally for multiple consecutive years.
