Henan man who was declared as “failed” in the college entrance examination became an auxiliary police officer, only to discover 35 years later that someone had impersonated him to attend school, and that imposter later became the vice dean of a hospital. This belated truth hit him like a bolt from the blue; he couldn’t believe how his life trajectory had been completely altered in such a way. In order to seek justice, the man embarked on the path of defending his rights.
According to reports from the “Modern Express,” the man named Xinan, who is 54 years old this year, did not receive an admission notice after the college entrance examination in 1990, believing that he had failed, so he took on a job as an auxiliary police officer, a role he held for more than thirty years.
It wasn’t until July 2022 that he was informed by staff from the Mengzhou Health Commission that his admission notice for the college entrance examination that year had been fraudulently collected by someone else. A fellow examinee named Li, who happened to be in the same year, had taken his place at the Jiaozuo Health School. After graduating, Li smoothly entered the public service system of the Mengzhou City Health Department and eventually became the vice dean of the West Guo Town Health Center in Mengzhou City, as public records show.
Subsequently, Xinan went to the Mengzhou Health Commission to inquire about this matter. In a file labeled “Li Xinan,” he found his own high school graduation registration, application form for the college entrance examination, and medical examination forms from that year.
After the incident was exposed, Li Xinan was dismissed from his public office by the Mengzhou Health Commission in July 2022, and his academic qualifications and medical practitioner license were revoked. However, more than two years have passed, and those involved have not been held legally accountable. Xinan has been unable to find peace with this situation.
“I came out of the countryside, and pursuing education was the only way out. It’s been over 30 years, and my feelings are really hard to put into words,” he said. “I don’t want to make things difficult for others, but the unlawful act at the beginning has had an irreparable impact on my life. I need to know how this impersonation happened, at the very least. Those involved and the relevant authorities need to give me an explanation.”
On the evening of April 22, the Joint Investigation Team in Qinyang City, Henan Province, issued a statement responding to the incident where a “fifty-year-old auxiliary police officer was impersonated to attend a vocational school more than 30 years ago.” They have set up a joint investigation team and have preliminarily confirmed that the contents circulated on the internet are essentially true. The next steps will involve further actions based on the investigation results.
