Recently, Taiwanese singer Angela Zhang, who has held “The Players” concert tour in mainland China in recent years, completed a performance in Hubei in early September. However, controversy has arisen as reports have emerged of unpaid wages for the stage construction workers. A group of workers went on strike collectively, claiming that at least four shows from the tour had not settled wages.
Video footage from the scene revealed that the incident took place at the Huangshi Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hubei Province on the evening of September 13, 2026. The workers participating in the strike stated to the camera that they were responsible for building the stage for Angela Zhang’s concert tour. Despite the conclusion of at least four shows, they had yet to receive their wages. Feeling helpless, they resorted to collective action to demand payment and requested assistance from Angela Zhang’s team and other responsible individuals of the concert tour to resolve the issue.
The concert tour by Angela Zhang was jointly organized by IMC Group Asia and Angela Zhang’s own company, Tianhan Limited. The Huangshi venue where the strike occurred was actually managed by Wuhan Huayao Guangfeng Cultural Development Co., Ltd.
According to information disclosed by industry insiders cited in Taiwanese media reports, stage construction for mainland Chinese concerts typically adopts an outsourcing model. The payment of workers’ wages primarily depends on the contract arrangements between the organizers, contractors, construction companies, and venues. Therefore, many netizens believe that this issue falls under the responsibility of the talent agency and the outsourcing construction company, with wages not necessarily directly handled by Angela Zhang herself.
However, due to previous public accusations in 2020 of delaying payment for promotional services for commercial performances, some netizens bluntly stated, “She has a history of not paying debts”, “This is a recurring pattern, let’s see if the workers can get paid this time.” Expressing dissatisfaction with Angela Zhang.
Angela Zhang recently held a concert at the Huangshi Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hubei Province, becoming the first female singer to hold a solo concert at the venue, attracting over 30,000 fans. That night, she performed several classic songs and when she sang her hit, “Lost Beauty,” it sparked a massive sing-along from the audience, creating a lively atmosphere.
As of now, Angela Zhang’s team and related parties have not yet responded to the wage dispute.
