On July 17, a large-scale mountain collapse occurred in Pengshui County, Chongqing, causing multiple residential buildings to collapse and residents to be trapped and buried. At the time, a passenger bus was buried, with villagers estimating around 19 people were on board. On the night of July 26, rescue workers found the wreckage of the bus and human remains at the scene.
According to a notification issued by “Pengshui News” on July 27, around 23:52 on July 26, the wreckage of the missing passenger bus was discovered at work site C area of the mountain collapse in Pengshui, Chongqing. Subsequent reports stated that human remains were found inside and around the wreckage of the passenger bus at the scene, and DNA testing is underway to confirm their identities.
On the morning of July 17, a large-scale mountain collapse occurred in Pengshui County, Chongqing, resulting in multiple residential buildings collapsing and trapping residents. Official reports stated that the incident resulted in 11 deaths, 10 injuries, and 50 people missing.
On the night of July 24, Pengshui County reported that by 22:00 on that day, three more victims were found, bringing the death toll to 14. However, the report did not mention the cause of the mountain collapse.
Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s history of concealing disaster-related information, the actual death toll from the mountain collapse has raised doubts among the public.
Following the disaster, local resident Chen Jianhua told Epoch Times, “Thirteen buildings collapsed, with people living inside, some managed to get out, while others did not.” Another resident, Wei Jianzhong, also mentioned, “Over a dozen buildings collapsed, spanning tens of meters. Over a dozen buildings were occupied, there are probably hundreds of people buried inside.”
Furthermore, a villager from Datong Town in Pengshui County informed Epoch Times reporters that a bus traveling to and from Datong Town was unfortunately buried when it passed through the street where the mountain collapse occurred, with approximately 19 people on board.
