Early Monday morning, near the US Consulate in downtown Toronto, a shooting incident occurred. Police have blocked off some roads for investigation, and there have been no reports of casualties.
According to police reports, around 4:45 am, officers were alerted to investigate near University Avenue and Queen Street, where they found a shell casing outside the US Consulate.
Following the incident, the southbound lane of University Avenue was closed to allow police to collect evidence and conduct their investigation.
It is currently unclear if the US Consulate was the target of the shooting incident, and it is also uncertain whether the shooting occurred outside the consulate or at another nearby location.
Authorities mentioned that a white sedan was observed leaving the scene. As of now, the police have not disclosed the identity of any suspects or other relevant information, as the case remains under investigation.
Moreover, it is worth noting that this is the second shooting incident in the vicinity of the US Consulate in over four months.
On March 10th of this year, the US Consulate in Toronto was previously targeted in a shooting incident. Subsequently, law enforcement confirmed that multiple suspects related to the case were apprehended. Investigators stated that the previous incident involved “hire for shooting,” with young individuals hired to fire at the consulate.
