Recently, in the cities of Jinan and Qingdao in Shandong province, the opening of Sam’s Club members’ stores has attracted a large number of people, leading to chaotic scenes on-site. Many netizens have posted videos claiming that in the newly opened Sam’s Club stores in Jinan and Qingdao, people were found stealing and eating ready-to-eat food, leaving chicken bones, empty drink bottles, and other discarded items in the shopping area. The related videos have sparked heated discussion.
A video taken at the Sam’s Club store in Qingdao shows a shelf displaying “Abalone and Dried Scallop Zongzi in Fish Broth,” where 8 bottles of drinks that should have been placed in the chilled drink section were found. One of the bottles had been taken, and another was already an empty bottle.
The related videos quickly sparked discussion among netizens. Many believe that this indicates that people were directly eating products in the store and casually disposing of the empty packaging, saying it was like having a buffet at Sam’s Club. Some commented, “It’s embarrassing…”
Another netizen mentioned witnessing someone finishing a chicken leg and then stuffing the box into the snack area.
Ms. Xi, a netizen, posted that at the Sam’s Club in Qingdao, on the shelf selling mineral water, there was a box of leftover chicken bones and used paper towel gloves. She questioned, “Is it allowed to eat like this before reaching the checkout counter?”
According to Jimo News, Ms. Xi stated that she saw this on the opening day, May 15, and was told by staff that there were too many people, making it difficult to manage, indicating negligence indeed existed.
Another video uploaded by a netizen showed in the sales area of the Sam’s Club stores in Jinan and Qingdao, there were ready-to-eat foods and drinks randomly discarded that did not belong to those areas, with clear signs of being consumed by someone.
On May 21, Jinan Sam’s Club customer service hotline stated, “There have been many such incidents recently, and the leadership is taking it very seriously.” The staff mentioned that they are currently investigating the matter and will take appropriate measures.
Qingdao Sam’s Club customer service also mentioned that they have documented the relevant incidents and need to contact the relevant department for further verification. Sam’s Club customer service responded by saying they have recorded the incidents and will provide feedback to the relevant department for verification and handling.
