Many people enjoy McDonald’s breakfast, especially the Bagel breakfast sandwich. Now, after a four-year hiatus, McDonald’s in the United States has finally reintroduced the Bagel to its breakfast menu.
The Bagel was first introduced to McDonald’s breakfast menu at the end of 2019, but during the spring of 2020 lockdown, McDonald’s streamlined its menu, and the Bagel was removed. Subsequently, fans took to social media to demand the return of the Bagel.
A Facebook group called “Where is my McDonald’s Bagel?” was created, boasting 25,000 members. Consumers’ demands were met, and McDonald’s has confirmed the return of the Bagel, though it hasn’t been rolled out nationwide yet.
According to the daily updates from users of this Facebook group, out of McDonald’s 14,000 restaurants in the US, at least 1,700 have started offering Bagels.
When the “Daily Mail” checked the list in April, the group had 12,000 members, and they found 1,200 McDonald’s restaurants offering Bagels. The comparison between these two numbers indicates an increasing number of restaurants offering Bagels.
Customers in California, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, Iowa, West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Alabama, and New York (the Bagel capital of the US) have already seen the return of the Bagel.
McDonald’s offers four flavors of Bagel breakfast sandwiches, all featuring eggs and cheese as key ingredients. Three varieties include meat – bacon, sausage, or steak – and one with just eggs and cheese.
These sandwiches are made using toasted butter Bagels. The steak, egg, and cheese Bagel sandwich include a steak patty, two slices of American cheese, sautéed onions, an egg, and breakfast sauce. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich come with bacon, an egg, two slices of American cheese, and McDonald’s signature breakfast sauce. The Spanish omelette Bagel sandwich features a sausage patty, a slice of pepper jack cheese, a slice of American cheese, an egg, diced green peppers, onions, all topped with breakfast sauce.
Prices vary at different restaurants. Bacon and sausage Bagels are priced at $4.69 in some stores, while the steak one is more expensive at $5.39.
Fans rejoiced on social media platform X over the return of the Bagel.
“McDonald’s Bagel is back… the world is healing,” wrote a customer on X.
“In my four-year war with McDonald’s, I have finally achieved victory. The Bagel is back,” another customer wrote.
McDonald’s told the “Daily Mail” last Friday: “Our fans have long loved McDonald’s breakfast, and we are thrilled to see their enthusiasm for their favorite menu items on display.”
“Although Bagel sandwiches are not available nationwide, they are regional products currently being sold in multiple McDonald’s markets.”
