Shanghai Building Collapse Traps Hotel Guests

In the early morning of January 3rd at 4:49 a.m., a partial collapse incident occurred at a renovated building at 50 Youyi Road, Baoshan District, Shanghai, trapping three people.

According to reports from China Youth Net and NetEase’s account “Dream Balcony,” the collapse happened at Baoshan Grand Hotel caused by the renovation work.

Local residents of Baoshan mentioned that “Baoshan Grand Hotel collapsed, affecting the dental clinic and the neighboring HanTing Hotel.”

It was reported that the building involved was a complex commercial structure with attached shops, a hotel, a dental clinic, and the lobby area serving as HanTing Hotel, utilizing the first floor partially and the second, third, and fourth floors. The collapse resulted in the partial facade collapse of HanTing Hotel and Jia Ya Dental Clinic.

Employees of HanTing Hotel stated that other units of the connected three-story building were undergoing renovation work, leading to a structural collapse that trapped guests in the rooms on the right side of HanTing Hotel under the rubble.

As per the notification from the Baoshan District Fire Rescue Brigade in Shanghai, the collapsed area is approximately 50 square meters. Currently, two individuals have been rescued and sent to receive medical treatment, while one person is still being searched for.

The incident has caused concern among locals and authorities as they work tirelessly to ensure the safety of those impacted and investigate the cause of the collapse. The collaboration between rescue teams, medical personnel, and authorities highlights the importance of swift response and coordination in such emergencies to minimize casualties and damages.
