Recently, in Songjiang, Shanghai, Meituan delivery rider Hou Haifu encountered a young child choking on a foreign object while delivering food. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, he made the decision to abandon the delivery order and rushed the child to the hospital for emergency treatment.
According to a report by “Xiaoxiang Morning News,” on March 11th, they contacted the delivery rider, Hou Haifu. He explained that on March 10th, while on his way to pick up an order at Yungu New World North Gate in Songjiang District, he noticed a young child whose face was turning purple and who was losing consciousness due to something stuck in their throat, indicating a life-threatening situation. Without hesitation, as a father himself, he immediately applied the Heimlich maneuver to the child to clear the biscuit lodged in the child’s throat. Although the child started crying after the obstruction was removed, their condition remained unstable. To buy time for treatment, he promptly picked up the child, rode his electric bike, and rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
Due to his focus on saving the child, Hou Haifu was delayed in delivering three orders. Upon learning of Haifu’s heroic act, Meituan promptly waived the penalties for the delayed orders on its platform.
“I am also a parent. When I saw the situation at that moment, I didn’t think twice and just wanted to save the child as quickly as possible,” said Hou Haifu. He expressed that as long as the child was safe and sound, that was all that mattered. He also advised against blaming the shocked mother of the child, saying, “As parents, we all understand.”
The child’s father intended to give Hou Haifu a red envelope as a token of gratitude, but Hou Haifu politely declined the offer.
