In order to ensure that children and adolescents continue to receive adequate nutrition during the summer vacation, the New York City Department of Education announced that the 2026 Free Summer Meals Program will officially begin on June 29 and continue until September 4.
Children and adolescents under 18 years old can receive free breakfast and lunch at designated public schools, parks, libraries, swimming pools, and community service locations throughout the city, without the need for pre-registration, identification or income proof.
Service hours: Breakfast: 8:00 am to 9:15 am; Lunch: 11:00 am to 1:15 pm.
It is important to note that there will be no meal service on July 3 (Friday).
In addition to the fixed meal locations, the city of New York will deploy mobile food trucks to provide services in communities. In particular, the food truck in Queens will be stationed at Flushing Meadows Corona Park from July 11 to August 14, making it easier for more families to access meals nearby.
The city government stated that the Summer Meals Program aims to fill the gap for students who are unable to access on-campus meals after school is out for summer break, ensuring that children can still enjoy healthy and balanced diets during the summer vacation. Eligible families can inquire about the nearest meal locations and the latest service information through the 311 hotline or the city government’s related websites.
The city government urges parents to make good use of this free resource to ensure that children can eat healthily and grow happily during the summer vacation.
