Ningbo Xiaoluoxi’s Family Summoned, Supporters Blocked and Sent Back

Last year, Ningbo’s Xiaoluoxi passed away due to a medical accident, and Xiaoluoxi’s mother, Deng Rongrong, is still fighting for justice. Recently, Xiaoluoxi’s mother, Deng Rongrong, father, Xu Chunbiao, and grandmother posted a video online stating that they were summoned to the police station and detained thereafter. Netizens from various parts of the country drove to the police station to show support, but some were intercepted and sent back.

On the evening of June 15th local time, Xiaoluoxi’s mother, Deng Rongrong, father, Xu Chunbiao, and grandmother posted a video online, mentioning that the Ningbo Public Security Bureau wanted to summon them to “verify the situation.” Deng Rongrong hinted that if there were no updates on her social media by 8 p.m. that night, it meant they had been taken away.

Shortly after, they appeared to be inside the police station, where they stated that they had written farewell letters and demanded severe punishment for the doctor involved. Xu Chunbiao mentioned that the authorities threatened to investigate a case from over ten years ago and threatened them with a 10-year sentence. He expressed determination to persist as long as he was alive, saying, “We no longer wish to live.”

That night, the video they posted showed the family resting in the waiting area of the police station, sleeping under blankets on benches.

Until the early hours of the 16th, numerous netizens kept sending messages, inquiring whether Xiaoluoxi’s family had returned home.

On June 17th, netizens nationwide continued to bypass internet censorship, voicing indignation for Xiaoluoxi.

According to a report from the self-media platform “Yesterday,” on the evening of June 15th after “having tea” at the Fangqiao Police Station in Fenghua District, Ningbo, Xiaoluoxi’s family decided to stay at the police station to “resolve the issue” and requested to see Ningbo Municipal Party Secretary Wang Cheng, but as of the morning of the 17th, they had not left.

Simultaneously, netizens from various places went to Ningbo in support. A video from the 16th showed that several supporters had gathered around the Fangqiao Police Station, where authorities had deployed dozens of police officers and plainclothes personnel to maintain order.

On the 16th, a supporter from Guizhou who had just arrived in Ningbo was intercepted and detained by the police, eventually being forcibly sent back. There are videos showing these occurrences.

Numerous netizens stated they were calling the Ningbo authorities to inquire about the situation, exerting pressure through public opinion.

A video showed that a lawyer from Beijing was heading to Ningbo and warned in a video that summoning citizens to the police station for up to 24 hours, continuous summoning, and excessive detentions were all illegal acts.

The current progress of Xiaoluoxi’s family’s rights defense action remains unknown.

On November 14th last year, Xiaoluoxi, a premature baby only five months old, passed away after undergoing heart surgery at the Ningbo University Affiliated Women and Children’s Hospital. His mother, Deng Rongrong, publicly reported on social media, alleging that the doctor’s pre-surgery assessment was incorrect. Parents were told beforehand that the surgery would last 2.5 to 3 hours, but it actually took about 7 hours. After the surgery, the child was sent to the ICU, but resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful.

Since then, Xiaoluoxi’s parents have continued their fight for justice, seeking answers regarding their child’s death. The incident sparked widespread doubts across the internet about China’s medical quality and doctor-patient relationships, with many parents showing support online and offline. Under public pressure, the Ningbo Municipal Health Committee announced the establishment of an investigative team. By February 5, 2026, the results of the investigation into the incident were reported as a “level one major medical accident, with the chief surgeon having their medical license revoked.” However, netizens and relatives believed that the official report was playing down the severity of the situation.

Xiaoluoxi’s family continues their efforts to seek justice, while local authorities appear to be interfering. On Mother’s Day this year, May 10th, Deng Rongrong was followed by an unidentified man. When confronted, the man arrogantly stated, “Even if you report me to the police, I’m not afraid. I’m this arrogant!”
