World’s Top 10 Busiest Airports: Second Place Sees Changes

Last year, international travel resumed, leading to an increase in passenger traffic rankings worldwide from London to Tokyo airports. Among the top ten airports in terms of total passenger volume, five spots were taken by the United States.

According to the preliminary rankings released by the Airports Council International (ACI) on Monday, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta Air Lines’ largest hub, once again topped the list of busiest airports, serving 104.7 million passengers. Dubai International Airport followed closely for the first time, surpassing Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to claim the second spot.

In 2023, nearly 8.5 billion passengers were welcomed by airports globally, showing a 27% increase from 2022 but still about 6% lower compared to pre-pandemic levels. The top ten airports accounted for nearly 10% of global passenger traffic (806 million passengers), marking a 19.8% increase from 2022 and a 0.7% growth from 2019 figures.

Denver International Airport saw nearly 78 million passengers last year, a 12% increase from 2022.

The revival of international travel has been a highlight for airlines with extensive global networks. Tokyo Haneda International Airport saw a 55% increase in passenger traffic from 2022, ranking fifth, up from 16th a year earlier.
