Fire at Beijing Qiaofu Fangcaodi Shopping Center, Thick Black Smoke Rises

On June 17th, a fire broke out at a national five-star shopping center, Qiaofu Fangcaodi, in Beijing, with flames extinguished approximately an hour later. The fire department reported that no casualties were found trapped or injured.

Video circulating on the internet showed flames burning on the top floor of Qiaofu Fangcaodi in Beijing at around 8 p.m. on the 17th, emitting billowing black smoke, with firefighters using aerial ladders to extinguish the fire. The surrounding traffic was affected by the incident, causing vehicles traveling southbound at the Dongdaqiao intersection to be unable to pass during the period. Around 9 p.m., staff members stated that the flames had been extinguished.

Qiaofu Fangcaodi is located at 9 Dongdaqiao Road, Chaowai Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Developed and managed by Beijing Qiaofu Real Estate Co., Ltd., it encompasses office buildings, shopping centers, art centers, and hotels. The architecture of Qiaofu Fangcaodi has won numerous awards, and in 2019, it was designated as a national five-star shopping center.

Beijing Chaoyang Fire Department issued a notice stating that at 8 p.m. on June 17th, the 119 command center received an alarm about a fire in the storage room on the top floor of the Qiaofu Fangcaodi building. By 8:45 p.m., the flames were extinguished, and there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Netizens on Weibo have been discussing the incident, with comments such as, “I was having dinner at the opposite World Trade Jie and saw the black smoke, didn’t expect it to be a fire,” and, “The surrounding traffic is completely jammed.”
