In a tragic incident in Ruoyang County, Luoyang, Henan Province, a 12-year-old boy named Wang Jiaxuan went missing for a month. On January 5th, his body was discovered in a downstream reservoir. A surveillance video captured his final desperate cries for help, “Who will save me, I can’t hold on anymore.”
According to a missing person notice released by his family, Wang Jiaxuan was a sixth-grade student at Zhongxin Elementary School in Ruyang County and had been missing since after school on December 6th. During the search, his family heard the boy’s cries for help from the backyard of a local household on surveillance footage: “Help, is anyone there?” “Who will save me, I can’t hold on anymore.”
The surveillance footage was timestamped around 5:45 pm that day, showing a grey and a white tricycle at the scene alongside a canal, but no people were captured in the video.
Afterwards, multiple rescue teams searched along the canal, but despite a month passing, the boy was not found. It wasn’t until January 4th of this year when someone discovered what appeared to be the boy’s body in a nearby reservoir. On the morning of the 5th, after the rescue team retrieved the body, identification was made based on the school uniform, shoes, and confirmed it was Wang Jiaxuan, missing for a month. The reservoir where the body was found is about ten kilometers from the town of Zhongxin where Wang Jiaxuan lived. Government officials from the town confirmed that Wang Jiaxuan’s body was indeed found in a nearby reservoir.
At the retrieval scene, many family members knelt down and wept in anguish.
The video of the boy’s cries for help has stirred sympathy among many netizens.
