On November 4th, a surveillance video from the Le Ping district of Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, circulated online. According to the source, on November 2nd, in a residential complex in Le Ping, Jingdezhen, a 7-year-old girl was seen being grabbed and covered by the mouth by a 14-year-old boy in an elevator. The release of the video sparked discussion and debate online.
The surveillance footage showed that around 9 p.m. on the 2nd, a young girl entered the elevator followed by a boy. The boy stood behind the girl, attempting to touch her back. As the elevator door opened and the girl prepared to exit, the boy rushed forward, grasped her and covered her mouth. The girl struggled and fell to the ground, at one point even losing consciousness. The boy then controlled the girl with one hand, closed the elevator door, pressed the button for the 1st floor, and once the door opened again, he carried the girl out of the elevator.
Following the incident, the girl’s mother, Ms. Li, immediately went to the property management with her family to review the surveillance footage and reported the incident to the police. It was later revealed that the boy was a minor, 14 years old, and due to being under 16 years old, he was released the next day.
Ms. Li expressed dissatisfaction with the boy’s parents’ attitude, stating that they did not offer an apology or compensation. She mentioned that while the boy and her family lived in the same residential area, they did not reside in the same building, and they did not know the boy personally.
Ms. Li shared that her 7-year-old daughter, who is in the second grade, had a nightmare the previous night and refused to go to school the next day. The memory of what happened in the elevator still haunts her to this day.
The incident has sparked heated discussions online. Many netizens expressed their concerns, stating, “It’s very sad… this has happened many times and will continue to happen. I wonder when things will change.” “Seeing news like this is heartbreaking. I hope elevators are equipped with surveillance and alarm systems, and I hope everyone teaches their children self-defense techniques.” “In this age of advanced information technology, the concept of minors has evolved. The law should adapt to the new circumstances.” “It’s so frightening. I hope the girl can soon recover from this ordeal. Let’s all protect our children.”
