In a bizarre incident in Kansas City, Missouri, a man found himself stuck inside a portable toilet, unable to move until police and firefighters arrived on the scene to rescue him. The man was eventually freed with the assistance of emergency responders.
According to reports from KATV, the incident took place on July 14th. Employees of the local portable toilet rental company, Patriot Portable Restrooms, were in the process of retrieving toilets used during World Cup soccer-related events at the location.
Before loading each portable toilet onto the truck, a driver from the company would inspect each one by knocking on the door to ensure that no one was inside. One of the toilets was locked at the time, and the driver informed the occupant inside that they had approximately 10 minutes left before he would come back to collect it.
Upon the driver’s return, the man was still inside the locked toilet, prompting him to seek help from law enforcement. A passing motorcycle officer was flagged down for assistance. When the officer asked the man inside the toilet to come out, he replied that he couldn’t reach the door and couldn’t get out, which puzzled the rescue team.
After opening the door, rescuers initially didn’t see anyone inside. Chip Counterman, a partner at the company, stated, “Suddenly, a head popped out of the toilet.” It turned out that the man had managed to squeeze himself into the feces collection tank below the toilet seat.
During the rescue process, the man explained that a bottle of Mountain Dew had fallen into the collection tank the previous night, prompting him to climb in to retrieve it, but then he found himself unable to get out. He was trapped inside the tank for approximately 8 hours.
Firefighters initially attempted to guide him to climb out on his own, but their efforts were unsuccessful. They eventually used cutting equipment to open up the toilet structure. After the man crawled out, firefighters washed him down with water from the fire truck, bringing the whole ordeal to an end.
Counterman expressed gratitude to the fire department and police department for their assistance in safely resolving what he described as a “terrifying incident.”
