From June 3 to June 9, New York Chinese-American Association assists in applying for housing rental assistance vouchers.

The New York Chinese-American Association will provide free assistance to low-income households, elderly, and disabled individuals in applying for housing rental assistance vouchers from June 3rd to 9th. The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has reopened applications after a 15-year hiatus, presenting a rare opportunity that should not be missed by those in need.

According to Yu Jinshan, the leader of the Democratic Party’s 65th Assembly District, there is a significant demand for housing rental assistance vouchers among the Chinese community. Some Chinese residents may face difficulties with English and computer usage required to fill out the application forms, but they can seek assistance from volunteers at the New York Chinese-American Association during office hours.

Ying Lingxia, Senior Regional Director at the office of Congressman Goldman, expressed gratitude for the strong support and swift coordination by the volunteer team at the New York Chinese-American Association and District Leader Yu Jinshan. Within a short period, they have organized assistance for overseas Chinese to apply for housing assistance vouchers, which, if successfully obtained, can help low-income individuals alleviate some rental pressures by directly paying landlords.

This year, there are 200,000 quotas available for voucher applications, processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants will be determined through a lottery system to enter the quota. Each eligible applicant can only apply once, but every qualified member within a household can submit an application.

Yu Jinshan reminds the public that although they will need to wait for the NYC Housing Authority to announce the selected list in August, followed by entering a waiting list, not applying guarantees no chance of being selected. Only by applying can one hope to be drawn.

As per NYCHA’s guidelines, the household’s annual income must not exceed the following limits: $54,350 for a single-person household, $62,150 for a two-person household, $69,900 for a three-person household, $77,650 for a four-person household, $83,850 for a five-person household, $90,050 for a six-person household, $96,300 for a seven-person household, and $102,500 for an eight-person household.

For those in need of assistance in applying for rental subsidies, they can visit the New York Chinese-American Association between 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm from June 3rd to 9th, bringing along necessary documents including valid identification, income proof, utility bills, tax returns, and bank statements. The address is 88 East Broadway, inside the East Broadway Mall in Manhattan, New York City.
