On Saturday, August 15th, the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, successfully held the 5th annual “Corgi Race Vilnius.” This fun and adorable event attracted 150 Corgis from 9 countries, making it the largest scale since its establishment during the pandemic.
According to media reports, this event started during the COVID-19 pandemic as a spontaneous idea by a few local Corgi owners out of boredom. It has now evolved into a European cute dog extravaganza embraced by thousands of spectators and international visitors. Vilnius has even been dubbed the “Corgi Capital of Europe” by The Guardian.
Apart from regular participants from Lithuania and neighboring countries such as Poland and Latvia, this year’s competition also welcomed Corgis from across the ocean, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic for the first time.
The highlight of the event was the Corgi race held in the style of horse racing. Eight Corgis competed in each race, sprinting 50 meters to reach their owners waiting at the finish line. The adorable chubby bodies of the Corgis with short legs running charmed the audience, igniting cheers and laughter throughout the venue.
Another highlight of the event was the creative costume contest. This year, popular dog costumes were themed around food, featuring outfits like corn, cheese, hot dogs, and traditional Lithuanian cold beet soup, showcasing unique creativity and aesthetics that were incredibly eye-catching.
Additionally, various activities such as puzzle solving, solo dog sprint, “smartest nose” scent challenge, and loudness competition were held simultaneously at the venue, creating a lively and entertaining atmosphere for all attendees.
