After being removed from office for 5 months, Xie Kun, former Deputy Mayor of Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and referred to judicial authorities.
On August 3, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC and the National Supervisory Commission announced on their website that, according to the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission of Shandong Province, with the approval of the Provincial Committee of Shandong, an investigation has been launched into the serious disciplinary and legal issues of Xie Kun, former member of the Party committee and Deputy Mayor of Jinan.
The announcement stated that Xie Kun was disloyal and dishonest to the Party, resisted organizational review, accepted gifts, cash, and gift cards in violation of rules, borrowed money from management and service objects, lent money for high returns, and had expenses reimbursed by others that should have been paid by himself. He abused public power for personal gain, engaged in corrupt practices, exploited his position for personal profit in project contracts and funding applications, and illegally accepted large sums of money.
According to the announcement, Xie Kun has been expelled from the Party, disqualified from being a representative at the 12th CPC of Shandong Province and the 12th CPC of Jinan City, and has been transferred to the judicial system.
On March 2, Xie Kun was officially under investigation.
Public records show that Xie Kun, born in May 1973, has worked in Jinan for a long time, holding positions such as Director of the Development and Reform Commission’s Development Planning Research Office, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission, District Chief of Jinan City’s Central District, Director of the Development and Reform Commission, and Director of the National Defense Mobilization Office of Jinan City.
In November 2023, Xie Kun was appointed as a member of the Party committee and Deputy Mayor of the Jinan City Government, and Director of the Comprehensive Test Zone for the Conversion of New and Old Kinetic Energy Office, until the investigation was initiated.
