On June 14th, during a speech event at Monterey Park in Los Angeles, Nationalist Party Chairman Zheng Liwen was interrupted by violent attacks from members of the China Democratic Party International Alliance during the question and answer session. On June 20th, anti-communist supporters gathered in Flushing, New York, to show solidarity with the victims of the violent attacks and to condemn the cross-border repression by the Chinese Communist Party revealed in this incident. The chairman of the alliance stated at the rally that the victims have hired attorneys to sue multiple assailants and have submitted relevant evidence to the police, FBI, and congressional offices.
According to on-site videos and multiple eyewitnesses, some protesters who were allowed to enter the venue were forcefully silenced, dragged, and pinned to the ground before they could finish asking their questions. After being knocked down, the victims were repeatedly attacked on their heads, chests, and necks by the perpetrators, some even kicked the heads of those who were down. Democracy activist Le Zai-lin was pinned down by a man who pressed on his neck, causing him to cry out in pain, with many onlookers filming the incident; there were also attempts to snatch protesters’ phones and delete recorded footage. After reviewing the footage, the police released the protesters involved on the spot.
The violent incident left several members of the organization injured, including Dong Ming and Su Yifeng; Dong Ming and Le Zai-lin were diagnosed with concussions at the hospital.
At the Flushing rally, the chairman expressed that this incident was not merely a personal conflict but a clear demonstration of the CCP’s transnational repression of anti-communists on American soil through overseas Chinese communities and united front agents. The alliance has already submitted medical reports, evidence, and related documents to the police, FBI, and the office of congressional representative Young Kim, and intends to inform more lawmakers who are concerned about Chinese human rights issues, including Chris Smith who has long focused on human rights in China.
The chairman revealed that some of the perpetrators have ties to the Los Angeles branch of the United Front Work Department. The victims have already retained legal counsel and are preparing to formally sue the assailants and related organizations.
Yang Maosen, founder of the China New Democratic Party, stated at the rally on the 20th that cross-border repression is a shameless act of thugs; any transnational repression against democracy activists and anti-communists should be condemned and resisted, and the victims must receive support and solidarity. He emphasized that there should be no room for CCP-led transnational repression in the United States and called on the American government to investigate CCP agents and relevant forces infiltrating overseas democracy circles.
