Queen’s District Hosts Free World Cup Viewing Party

Queens District Allocates $75,000 to Support Community Viewing Events for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Queen’s District has announced a fund of $75,000 to support community viewing events for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in preparation for the upcoming tournament.

The office of the District of Queens held a press conference on June 8 in front of the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, where District Chief Donovan Richards, along with representatives from the New York City Tourism + Conventions and various cultural and tourism organizations, announced the details of the plan.

Chief Richards stated that the funding is a joint effort between the District Chief’s office and the City Mayor’s office, with the aim of lowering the barrier of entry for the public to participate in World Cup activities, allowing more families to experience the global football event for free right at their doorsteps. He highlighted that Queens District boasts immigrant communities from around the world and hopes to showcase the district’s multicultural characteristics through the World Cup, while boosting tourism, dining, and small business development.

According to the announcement, five community events will receive funding and will be rolled out during the World Cup period.

Among them, the New York Hall of Science will host “Soccer Sundays” every Sunday during the tournament, utilizing a 30-foot outdoor giant screen to live stream matches. The event will also feature international food stalls in collaboration with the Queens Night Market, creating an immersive viewing experience that combines football and international culinary culture.

Queens Botanical Garden will host a large-scale free viewing event on the afternoon of the final day on July 19, allowing people to witness the crowning of the champion amidst outdoor greenery with family and friends.

MoMA PS1, the contemporary art museum in Long Island City, will hold a free viewing party on the final day of the tournament, integrating art spaces with community resources, inviting people to enjoy the World Cup final together.

The Pilot House Bar & Grill at Rockaway Beach will organize a large beach viewing party during the semi-finals on July 14-15, combining match broadcasts with entertainment activities and beach leisure experiences to create a seaside football carnival.

In addition, the Queens Economic Development Corporation has launched a World Cup information platform, consolidating over 60 related activities in the district and establishing an interactive map that includes information on over ten thousand local businesses. This platform aims to help tourists plan their itineraries and delve into the multicultural characteristics of Queens District.

Organizers expressed their hope that through a series of free viewing and cultural activities, the 2026 World Cup will not only be a football extravaganza but also serve as a significant opportunity to showcase the vitality and cultural charm of the Queens community.
