Recently, a video of a police car forcing a farm tricycle off the road into a roadside ditch in Zhang County, Dingxi, Gansu, has been circulating on the internet, sparking attention.
The video shows a farm tricycle traveling on the 089 County Road in Gaizhong County, Zhang County, Gansu. As the tricycle is approaching, a police car suddenly turns left, causing the tricycle to have no time to avoid it and veer into the roadside ditch, with the rear end of the tricycle hitting the roadside railing.
Mr. Qi told Huashang Daily “Dafeng News” that on February 13th around 4 pm, he happened to pass by and the dashcam in his car captured the scene. Mr. Qi said that there were two police officers in the police car, both wearing police uniforms. He mentioned, “The one sitting in the passenger seat is the director of Jingzhong Police Station. He got off the car and urged me to leave quickly. There were also two children in the back of the police car.”
Mr. Qi mentioned that at the time, the police car did not give any warning before pushing the farm tricycle into the ditch. After the accident, the police car was moved to the side of the road, and the police did not immediately check if there were any injuries to the people on the farm vehicle. Mr. Qi believed that such “enforcement” was extremely improper. When he got home, he posted the video captured by his dashcam online.
As a result, the next day, Mr. Qi received a call from the director of the Jingzhong Police Station, asking him to come to the station for questioning and warning him that it was illegal to post the video online and demanded its deletion.
Originally it was the county traffic police who checked vehicles, but now it is the jurisdictional police station chasing after farm tricycles and electric vehicles. The so-called management is just about imposing fines. Electric vehicles without a license plate or permit will be fined 700 RMB. As long as they spot a farm vehicle, they will conduct inspections and levy fines. However, Mr. Qi mentioned, “The farm tricycle in question had a license plate, but I’m not sure if the driver had a driver’s license.”
On February 17, “Dafeng News” contacted the person in charge of the relevant police station for a response. They insisted that the case required confidentiality and stated, “There is no need to tell you,” blaming the reporter for being meddlesome, and then hung up the phone.
The incident has sparked heated discussions online. Many netizens expressed their views, questioning, “Is there still rule of law?” “What’s illegal about uploading the video?” “It’s outrageous, committing a crime, and then suing for the publication of the video.” “When police cars are on duty, are they supposed to check if tricycles are licensed?”
“Some places are rife with oppression.” “Was considering investing… might have to rethink now.”
