China: 7 men kidnapped in Thailand, 8 suspects including military and police arrested

Recently, seven Chinese men who were kidnapped in Thailand have been rescued, and Thai authorities have arrested eight suspects involved in the case, including four Thai police officers and one soldier.

According to the Thai Post, the rescued Chinese men are aged between 22 and 25 years old.

Thai police stated that the seven individuals were deceived by high-paying job advertisements and illegally crossed the border from Laos into Thailand. They were taken to a resort in the eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani and held captive. The victims managed to send their location to relatives through their mobile phones, leading to their rescue.

The victims reported that they were abducted by three special affairs officials, one border patrol police officer, one quasi-military cavalry, and three civilians, including one of Burmese nationality. After being kidnapped, they were forced to contact their relatives to demand a ransom of 2 million Thai baht (approximately 431,000 yuan) for their release.

Thai authorities have arrested the eight individuals involved in the case. The involvement of law enforcement personnel in the kidnapping has raised concerns among Chinese tourists. The Royal Thai Police Headquarters has stated that they plan to expand the scope of the investigation and thoroughly examine whether other officers were also involved.

This incident highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all individuals, especially when traveling abroad. It serves as a reminder to always be cautious and vigilant, and to seek assistance from local authorities or embassies in case of emergencies while overseas.
