Recently, the highly publicized “ticket-tearing” case in the Philippines has seen its main suspect, Mr. Liu, deported back to China on July 20.
In June 2024, two senior executives of a Chinese medical equipment company traveled to the Philippines for business negotiations and fell victim to a staged kidnapping scheme that caused a sensation both domestically and internationally.
On June 20 of that year, Chinese national Xia and American Chinese national Sun traveled to Manila, Philippines, for medical business discussions. They were kidnapped by a criminal gang in Manila. Despite their families paying a ransom of 3 million RMB, the two individuals tragically met their demise through “ticket-tearing” on June 24. That same night, villagers discovered their bodies near a lake in the village of Patingan, South Camarines Province, Philippines.
After the incident, the police discovered that this was a kidnapping and murder gang specifically targeting Chinese nationals, which operated frequently in the Philippines. Among the names implicated, Mr. Liu was the prime suspect.
This case exposed the risks of the dark industry chain targeting senior executives of Chinese companies going abroad. Following the incident, the Philippine police identified 8 suspects, including 5 foreigners and 3 Filipinos.
Initial reports centered around the suspects and the medical equipment distributor “Li Na” but did not delve into the main suspect behind the scenes, Mr. Liu.
“Li Na,” whose passport name is Chen Yuxuan, was born in 1980 and traveled from Taiwan to South Korea.
Family members of the deceased received news from the Philippine police that “Li Na” was arrested in Seoul, South Korea, on September 22 of that year. According to sources cited by The Paper at the time, “Li Na” was implicated in more than one kidnapping case.
After the incident, Mr. Liu quickly fled to the United States.
In October 2024, Mr. Liu was detained in the U.S.; on July 20, 2026, he was formally deported and returned to Beijing.
As of now, public channels have not disclosed more detailed personal background information about Mr. Liu, nor the nature of his relationship with “Li Na.”
