Former Mayor Wang Ailin of Arcadia in Southern California, who was accused of illegally acting as an agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and resigned, has drawn condemnation from the Chinese community for CCP infiltration in the United States. Recently, the “June 4th Memorial Museum” in Los Angeles held a rally to raise awareness among Chinese residents to identify and stay away from CCP agents, while urging the U.S. government to guard against Communist China’s infiltration to protect democracy and freedom.
Last Saturday afternoon, volunteers from the June 4th Memorial Museum held a small rally outside the Arcadia City Hall. They carried signs with English slogans such as “June 4th Memorial Museum Strongly Condemns CCP Red infiltration,” “Back Off! CCP!,” and “CCP Agents Out of Office.”
As a non-profit organization, the June 4th Memorial Museum relocated from New York to Los Angeles last year. The museum displays historical photos of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, including the CCP’s use of tanks and machine guns to massacre innocent students and civilians, scenes from the democracy movement, and various artifacts.
Jin Yan, the executive director of the museum, mentioned in an interview that CCP infiltration activities began when the party was founded, first infiltrating the Kuomintang and later democratic countries with opposing ideologies, taking advantage of their freedoms.
“Any Asian political figures, they (CCP) will go to great lengths to build relationships, provide benefits, and speak on their behalf,” Jin Yan said. To prevent CCP from undermining the United States through infiltration, “we have repeatedly reminded the U.S. government and members of Congress; the June 4th Memorial Museum organized this event to prevent the reoccurrence of historical tragedies and end the CCP’s authoritarian rule.”
One of the museum volunteers, Liu Datong, believes that the CCP, an organization that brutally suppresses civilians and deprives people of their voting rights, has no right to interfere in U.S. politics. He sees the presence of illegal CCP agents, like Wang Ailin, in local politics as an insult to American voters through CCP’s red influence.
Wang Ailin was elected as a city councilor in Arcadia in November 2022. After being indicted by the U.S. prosecutor, she admitted to acting as a foreign agent at least from the end of 2020 to 2022. Liu Datong believes that elevating agents to positions of power is one of CCP’s goals to exert influence. “She needs to be in power to be more effective; when in government positions, she can amplify CCP’s influence.”
“Just imagine, a spy becoming a mayor in the U.S., how can all the Asians in her jurisdiction voice their opposition to CCP infiltration? Freedom of speech is likely to be suppressed,” Liu Datong expressed concern. “She is only a mayor now, are you sure she won’t become a governor in the future? A governor doesn’t need to be born in the U.S.”
Some Chinese parents come to the U.S. to give birth to children, who then obtain American citizenship and return to China for education under CCP’s influence. Liu Datong also worries that this group of people born in the U.S. and raised in China may become a gateway for CCP to infiltrate the United States in the future.
He further stated, from the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989 to supporting illegal agents overseas, CCP has never changed. “It has always been such an evil regime, and we cannot accept anyone serving this regime; they must be removed from the U.S. local political system.”
Another rally participant, Lao Shaohai, believes that the CCP is implementing “unrestricted warfare” against the United States by cultivating numerous illegal agents. These individuals utilize America’s democratic system to advance CCP’s influence; they are cunning and prioritize personal gain, even if it means obeying an authoritarian regime and undermining U.S. interests.
He called on the U.S. government to intensify punitive measures, not letting any illegal CCP agents slip through, in order to safeguard American freedom. ◇
