On the morning of July 17 in Hanjia Street, Pengshui County, Chongqing, a sudden mountain collapse occurred, resulting in the reported deaths of 11 individuals. However, from July 23 to 28, an additional 30 victims were found at the scene of the accident, bringing the confirmed death toll to at least 41 people.
According to the evening report on July 28 by Pengshui County, Chongqing, since the deep search and rescue operations started, search efforts have been completed in zones A and B. The search in zones C and D is now in its final stages. Between July 23 and 28, by 9 pm, after conducting DNA testing on the bodies and remains found at the scene, 30 victims have been identified. Some search results are still undergoing DNA testing. Previously, officials reported on July 23 that the accident resulted in 10 injuries, 11 fatalities, and 50 people missing.
At 9 am on July 17, a major mountain collapse occurred in Hanjia Street, Pengshui, Chongqing, burying several buildings below and trapping residents. Additionally, a passing passenger bus was also buried.
Following the incident, a villager from Datong Town in Pengshui County told the Epoch Times reporter that the buried bus was a regular county bus, suspected to have carried 19 passengers. “My sister-in-law’s sister and brother cannot be reached,” he said. Relatives of the missing persons informed mainland media that their sister in her 50s took the bus through the incident area in the early morning and has had no contact since.
On July 27, the WeChat public account “Pengshui Updates” released a message stating that around 11:52 pm on July 26, the missing passenger bus was found at the rescue site in zone C of the Pengshui mountain collapse. Human remains were discovered inside and around the bus wreckage, and efforts are ongoing to confirm their identities through DNA testing.
